11.28.23 Community Conversation on Homelessness + Affordable Housing
Join CAC on Tuesday at Whetstone Library for our next Community Conversation on Homelessness and Affordable Housing. We have two incredible speakers lined up – Yvonne Riggie is the founder of YR Architecture + Design and has direct experience developing an accessory dwelling unit in Columbus. Critty Buenconsejo is the CEO of Creative Housing, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to providing safe, accessible, and affordable housing to individuals with disabilities in the Columbus metropolitan area.
More on our Speakers
Yvonne Riggie is the founder of YR Architecture + Design, a small architecture studio in Columbus, OH that specializes in designing custom modern homes on one-of-a-kind and challenging sites where a site-sensitive, integrated design is paramount, and the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape is preserved.
Through her diverse experiences living, working, and volunteering in some of the poorest and wealthiest places around the world, she has a keen understanding, empathy, and appreciation for the human condition. She believes that architecture can happen anywhere, at any scale, and at any budget. This belief deeply affects her view on the role of architecture and the long-term impact of good design on our lives and our community.
She recently completed Columbus’s first true garage conversion to accessory dwelling unit to study the viability and affordability of adaptive reuse as a tool for alternative housing solutions. As the owner, architect, and builder on the project, she has a unique perspective and intimate knowledge of the entire process.
Yvonne holds a master’s degree in Architecture and an MBA from Kent State University. She is a licensed architect in WV, and OH and is LEED Accredited.
Ms. Buenconsejo is CEO of Creative Housing, Inc. Prior to being named CEO by the Board of Trustees, she oversaw Creative Housing’s construction projects, both new construction and residential renovations. Before joining Creative Housing, she had 10 years of design, construction documentation, project management and construction administration experience with local and national architectural firms. Her previous experience spans multistate residential and commercial projects. Ms. Buenconsejo holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kent State University and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Miami University. She also holds an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership through Harvard’s Kennedy School. She is a Certified Graduate Builder, Certified Graduate Remodeler and Certified Aging in Place Specialist. She holds memberships in the American Institute of Architects, National Association of Home Builders, National Fire Protection Association, International Code Council and the Professional Women in Building Council.
