Bio – Michael Weinman – District 7

Michael Weinman and his wife Ann have lived in Clintonville with their two daughters since 2008.

Weinman is dedicated to adding value to a community that is already strong, unified and family-oriented, so he is eager and optimistic to serve District 7.

Weinman’s background is in law enforcement, so he is focusing on safety to allow our children and grandchildren to grow up in neighborhoods where they are free to play, ride their bikes, and make friends that last a lifetime.

In 2011, Weinman was one of five public servants to file a petition to challenge and eventually overturn Senate Bill 5, an anti-worker law designed to strip 350,000 public employees of their collective bargaining rights in Ohio. Weinman served as treasurer for the We Are Ohio campaign, a position he still holds today, that collected a historic 1.3 million signatures to go directly to the ballot to overturn SB 5 with a citizen’s veto by a 62-38 percent margin.

Weinman grew up in Elwood City, Pennsylvania, and served in the U.S. Air Force as a Law Enforcement Specialist for seven years, and as a Security Forces Member in the U.S. Air Force Reserve for a year and a half.

He went to college while still in the military and earned an Associate Degree in Administration of Justice.

In 1997, Weinman joined the Columbus Division of Police as a patrol officer and spent two years in the Fraud and Forgery Unit.

Weinman worked as the legislative liaison for Columbus Police from 2003 to 2010, spent 11 months as a legislative liaison for the Ohio Department of Public Safety, before becoming Director of Government Affairs for the Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio.

In his job, Weinman advocates for police safety and security, but he also fights for critical family issues like reducing gun violence in our communities.

Education is a priority in the Weinman home for his children, Ann, who is a Columbus Public Schools teacher, and Mike.

While a police officer and liaison, Weinman continued to pursue a higher education, graduating with a B.A. in Political Science from The Ohio State University. Weinman continues to learn, completing the coursework for his M.S.A. with a concentration in Public Administration and is finishing up his capstone thesis.

In his spare time, Weinman enjoys spending time with his family, supporting his daughters’ athletic and artistic pursuits, going to concerts and the movies, and rooting for the Buckeyes while always keeping an eye toward the east on the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates.
